.In the 16th-17th centuries (between 1550-1650), the English crown attempted to replace Irish landowners with English and Scottish landowners by 'planting' new landowners. These took place in three parts of Ireland - Munster (1556), Laois/Offaly (1586) and Ulster (1609).
The Ulster Plantation was the most successful and still has an impact on the area to this day. www.plantationofulster.org/
